We’ve had a very cold weekend here in Atlanta and Friday night brought a rare occurance: SNOW! When you live in Atlanta and it snows, you hunker down and don’t plan on leaving the house until its above 40 degrees again. We only got a few inches in the suburbs, but it was enough excitement for JP and I.
It was his first snow experience that he was old enough to enjoy and play in. We own absolutely no true snow gear, so I put some plastic Ziploc bags over his socks then threw his shoes on. We made due and played in the snow for a solid 20 minutes. Until my Southern boy decided he had enough.
Of course, when it snows and you’re stuck inside, its only fair to bake for the rest of the family who still has to work. We made Ina Garten’s Blondies for my husband. He’s been working hard while we play in the snow, so it was only fair we baked some special treats for him.
On Saturday night I was all prepped to run the Hot Chocolate 15k in Atlanta. I signed up for it a few months ago as a fun run/walk with friends. It was supposed to be a nice, easy and fun race post-marathon. There was a lot of debate about the 15 degree weather for the morning and race officials shaved 2 minutes off of the pace requirement. All of the sudden, this wasn’t looking like a fun race anymore. Per my corral, I was going to have to hustle in the cold to keep the pace requirements. I went to bed planning to run it anyways.
My friend, Kierstn, texted me at 4am that her daughter was sick and we were going to carpool. I’m not sure if I do or do not make smart decisions at 4am, but I opted to stay home and hit the treadmill instead. I could feel that it was bitter cold outside and she gave the chance to stay home…I took it. I know, call me a wimp. I ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill instead. That means I still need a long run before Princess Half, but I’ll get it in!
It may have been only a 1/3 of what I was going to run today, but I’m happy that my speed is starting to come back with lower mileage. I’ll get over the runner’s guilt and get my mileage back up this week.
How was your weekend?
Did you survive snow or get stuck inside?
