2015 was a great running year for me. I ran the Glass Slipper Challenge, traveled to the Castaway Cay with Run Disney for my first international race and I ran over 200 race miles all together. But there was one thing missing the entire year for me: A PR.
As much fun as I had this past year running races with friends and traveling on racecations, I’m a little bummed that I never PR’d. I’m in a stagnant point right now in my running “career”, but I’m still running! In 2014 I ran almost a half marathon each month. After completing the Glass Slipper Challenge I cut myself some slack and didn’t race as much. Which wasn’t too bad, but… I felt invincible to losing my fitness.
Without even thinking about it, I also started to slack off on my diet. I started to eat some more junk, thinking that it wasn’t going to catch up with me (I have a huge sweet tooth). But it certainly did.
Even though I was keeping up my mileage and started my WDW Marathon training, my eating habits were spiraling out of control. I thought nobody would notice the few pounds I gained, then the 10 pounds, etc…etc…oh gosh…etc. I felt invincible since nobody knew that my clothing size was increasing but me.
I WAS SO WRONG.
So how did that translate into my running? I ended up with no PR and almost 1 minute was added to my half marathon finish time for each pound I gained. Not kidding!
So I meant a lot of my 2015 goals, but I feel pretty out of shape for running my first marathon in a few weeks. I know I’ll still rock it since I’ve done all the training, but I don’t feel like I’m the best version of me that I can be. Originally my plan and huge 2016 goal was to get pregnant immediately following the marathon, but now I’m thinking that I need to spend some time focusing on my health. I need to be the best version of me that I can be before adding the stress of a 2nd baby. Hopefully by the end of 2016, I can be in a position that I feel comfortable getting pregnant and happy with myself. Even my loving husband agrees that it’s time to put me first!
So here are my new 2016 (attainable) goals:
- Add 2x/week of speed training to my running plan.
- Run a race each month, no matter the distance.
- Keep a food journal with My Fitness Pal and track my activity daily.
- Learn how to handle stress when I’m alone to avoid binge eating. I’ll use social media, friends and family to keep myself accountable.
- Don’t let more than 2 days past without a workout.
- Goal Weight: 145-150lbs (Weight Today: 184lbs)
Hopefully 2016 with start out as a selfish year for me so I can get back on track for my dream having a second baby. I will learn to take care of myself again and handle the stress with family love and exercise instead of food. And who knows…maybe that PR will come around again!
