At the end of the year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude when I reminisce about our family’s blessings. I’m thankful for my family, our health and home. As my preschooler is starting to understand what being thankful means, I want to demonstrate how to give back. Sadly, not everyone can celebrate the holidays like us. Together, we are going to create several DIY Holiday Donation Gift Baskets to give back to those less fortunate than us.
It’s a simple way of showing compassion and giving back to our community. The gift baskets don’t need to be over-the-top and they’re easy to make. Keeping them simple makes it easy to do with your kids. Since it’s Winter time, think of essentials that everyone needs.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Hot Cocoa Packets, Coffee or Tea
- Toiletries (Toothbrush, Deodorant, Soap, Feminine Products)
- Essential Medications (Ibprofen, Cough Drops, Antacids)
- Simple Sources of Nutrition (Non-Perishable – Oatmeal, Nutrition Bars)
- Warm Blanket
- Winter Hat
- Hand Written Holiday Card from the Kids
My son and I went to Walmart for all of our shopping. It’s the perfect one stop shop for everything we needed. We included b+b® OTC Dye Free Ibprofen in our gift basket. As a family-owned company, b+b, has a strong focus on giving back. For every product purchased, b+b donates a product to a person in need.
When big brands donate, it shows families that they care. That sets a good example when I’m teaching my kids about giving back – and that why we made sure to include them in our project.
Through their national partnership with Americares, b+b has donated medicines to a network of over 1,000 free health clinics & rural health centers serving 5 million patients in need. When we purchased our b+b product, we helped those affected by homelessness, extreme poverty & natural disasters. I love that we helped others before we even finished our Holiday Donation Gift Baskets. That’s the power of corporate responsibility.
After you’ve done your shopping, follow the instructions below for tips on creating your donation gift basket. Keep the kids actively involved with the process to help them understand the idea of giving back.
