New! Disney’s Minnie Van Service | Everything You Need to Know

Updated: 7/31/17

Disney’s D23 Expo is where major announcements are made about the future of the theme parks. Unless you were living under a rock, it’s hard to miss all the Disney news that came from D23 this year. While there were MANY announcements, the one that immediately went into effect was Disney’s Minnie Van Service. It’s a point to point transportation option offered for guests of Disney resorts. It’ll be powered by Lyft.

Everything You Need to Know: Disney’s Minnie Van Service

In a whimsical play on words, Disney’s Minnie Van Service features polka dotted mini vans (Chevrolet Traverse) to reflect Minnie Mouse’s style. People took to social media to report that the transportation option is already available at the resorts. Guests can arrange their own private Disney vehicle right from their smartphone, and a Lyft driver will drive them wherever they want to go around Walt Disney World. You just use the Lyft app.

The vehicles seat 8 people across 3 rows and fits 2 car seats. It’s a flat $20 fee to use. Two carseats fit in the vehicle and you must use your own carseat.

Many people are comparing the service to taxi’s. I have to say, as someone who loathes waiting for busses at Disney, I love the added option. If you have a dinner reservation across property, when the parks are clearing out, it can take up to an hour to use Disney transportation. It’ll be interesting to see how many are available and if guests will be waiting for one.

Is it Cost Effective?

At $20 per ride, some are saying it isn’t cost effective. If you’re splitting the cost with other parties and don’t use it as your primary transportation option, I don’t think it’s bad. My recommendation is to use it when you’re crunched on time.

We are staying at the Boardwalk in the end of August. We are doing a quick trip and plan on using the minnievans mostly because we are trying to cram a lot in a short period of time. My question is about tipping. Are you supposed to tip? I read somewhere that the drivers were not accepting tips, and another article i read said they were. Thanks for your help!

From what I've read about people who have used the service, you are not supposed to tip. Now, granted, I'm sure if you offered a tip would be accepted. But I do not think it's in their policy.
