One of my favorite parts of planning a Run Disney race weekend is choosing my dining options. When you are staying at Walt Disney World, the dining options are endless. From premium signature dining to fun park food, there is something for everyone. But a Run Disney race weekend requires a bit more planning than your typical Disney vacation.
Check out my tips below before picking your dining options for your upcoming Run Disney race weekend:
Pick a Dining plan that best Suites you
Keep in mind that you’ll be logging miles on this vacation. If you prefer table seating and being served in the air conditioning at every meal, you may want a Deluxe Dining Plan. This is also a great option if you want to try multiple signature dining restaurants. The regular Dining Plan is great option for runners who are completing Run Disney Challenges since you may not have time for a sit down breakfast. This plan is most popular and you can enjoy a table service lunch or dinner instead. The Quick Service Dining Plan is great for runners who are on a tight budget.
Think about your meal preferences, budget and time constraints then pick the dining plan that is best for you.
Plan your pre-race meal according to your normal eating patterns
I like to mimic my pre-race meal at Disney to what I normally eat at home. Now is not the best time to eat a lavish meal before a race if you don’t do it at home. For a morning race, I plan my dinner early the night before. For an evening race, I like a early lunch with a light snack before the race. Keep in mind you’ll be waking up around 3AM for a morning race. That 9PM dining reservation the night before will not be a smart idea.
Ask about the marathon meal
On Marathon weekend in January, most restaurants offer a special meal just for runners! All you have to do is ask your server about it. Italian restaurants are popular with runners before races because of the pasta options for carb loading.
Breakfast may not be an option on race day
I’ve made reservations for after a race and then canceled them on the day of– being charged for my cancelation. After a Run Disney race, you’ll be at the finish line area longer than you’d expect. Bag check, meeting friends and waiting on your resort bus takes time. But Run Disney has some great options if you need to eat immediately after the race. You can purchase the Family Breakfast or Race Retreat. Race Retreat is day of the half or full marathon and offers a light continental breakfast option of muffins, juice and fruit. Platinum Cheer Squad members can utilize the Race Retreat breakfast too, if you’d like to have your family join.
Decide on a celebratory meal
Certain restaurants are known for being chosen as runner’s celebratory meals. For example, Be our Guest or Cinderella’s Royal Table are both popular spots to celebrate after the Princess Half Marathon. Pick a restaurant that sounds exciting and book early. If you are staying on Disney property, you can book dining 180 days prior to your trip.
Have fun booking your dining reservations and do your research. You’ll want to book dining at the 180 day mark so you can get the dining times and restaurant choices you prefer. Hopefully dining at Disney will be another magical part of your Run Disney vacation!
