Photography Tips for Run Disney Races

Run Disney recently made the switch to using their own photographers, same as the photographers located in the parks. It was such a welcomed change for runners because all of your photos, from the parks and the races, can be viewed on your My Disney Experience app! The process is simple and runners are leaving with more race photos than ever.

Most runners also use their smart phones to capture photos too. It’s a great way to snap some scenic course shots or instantly upload them to social media after the race.

With both ways to take capture your magical miles, I’ve got some tips to help you. You’ll end up with Facebook worthy photos and ones to proudly display at home!

8 Run Disney Photography Tips:

  1. Keep your bib number visible. The Disney photographers need to see your bib so the system can upload your photos to your My Disney Experience account. You’ll be able to download your photos after the race.
  2. Selfie sticks are strictly prohibited. Don’t bring them to the race or they might be confiscated.
  3. For the kid’s races: Your child’s race bib goes on the FRONT of their shirt. Some parents put it on the back so the child doesn’t rip it off. But once again, photographers needs to see the bib number.
  4. Have your personal phone or camera ready while waiting in line for a character. The character’s handler is usually more than happy to snap a photo.
  5. Consider running with a charging device if your phone battery dies. You can recharge your phone on the go and still capture photos later. This is a great tip for WDW Marathon runners who will need their phone battery to last 4+ hours.
  6. For your safety & for other runners, move to the side for photo opportunities along the course. When the course narrows, like along Main Street, it’s important to step aside so runner’s don’t bottleneck.
  7. Backdrops are available before the race and at the finish line. Sometimes characters will be available before the race, so arrive with plenty of time to spare.  If you don’t want a finish line photo with your medal, you can bypass the lines by using a designated path around the photographers.
  8. Use designated event hashtags when posting photos to social media. You never know who might feature your memory!

Most importantly: smile for the photos and enjoy the experience! It’ll be over before you know it and the photos will be one of your favorite keepsakes.
